I use an assortment of ancient laptops, a mix of OpenBSD and FreeBSD.
As I recall, I had no problems on FreeBSD and maybe one or two changes
to #define'd constants on OpenBSD. It's been quite a while since I had
to touch the GPSd itself -- I compiled it, set it to run at boot time,
and pretty much ignore it. I've been hacking on the client code that talks
to the daemon, interfacing dstumbler with the GPS.
I do not run X, so I have not had cause to test 'gpsdrive'. I only
built Russ Nelson's standalone GPSd source distribution:
http://russnelson.com/gpsd/gpsd-1.06.tar.gz
I can take a look tonight at the version I have installed and running
on my usual 'dstumbler' laptop and see if it differs at all from the
official source...
